PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- The partial government shutdown has a youth organization helping out. Members were at various national parks throughout the country Saturday collecting litter, including here in Philadelphia.
It's an effort by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, where Fraz Tangir is a member of the local chapter.
"It's unfortunate whatever is happening with the government is going on," Tangir said. "This is part of our faith, as well as to take care of our nation and respect our nation's laws, and basically take care of our own land."
Similar cleanup efforts took place in other parks, including Everglades National Park in Florida and Joshua Tree National Park in California.
