Superintendent William Hite in a Facebook Live session with parents Wednesday cleared up any confusion about the dress code for online learning.
“Do students have to wear uniforms for virtual learning? That is a great question and the answer is no,” Hite said. “You don’t have to wear uniforms for virtual learning.”
The superintendent said parents may want to wait before purchasing uniforms for the new school year.
“Do parents still need to buy uniforms? I would say we don’t need to do that yet,” Hite said. “I would not encourage doing that yet until we move closer to transitioning to some in-person instruction later in November, we hope.”
As for whether children will be required to appear on camera so that teachers can mark them present, Hite told reporters he didn’t think so.
“I don’t want to sit here and say that it’s going to be required for all of them to have face time, so to speak, because some families — many children — are still not comfortable with that approach.”
Hite said the district was “still working through” whether students would have to be seen on-screen to be counted as present.
He said there are other ways teachers can track attendance, including seeing whether a child had logged in with a student ID.
