
The process went into effect Aug. 3.
Bernadette Maull, court advocate of victims services for the Camden County Women’s Center, said courts have been shut down since the pandemic began, and hearings for TRO are backed up.
This is another option for victims.
”I don’t know that it’s better or worse. It’s the access, that given the circumstances, that we can work with. It’s better in that we’ve increased access to victims, but you’re still doing this over the phone,” Maull said.
She also stressed that anyone in danger — whether they are in a domestic violence situation or are seeking a restraining order — should call 911.
She said police can contact a municipal judge and have a restraining order issued.
A hearing for a Final Restraining Order hearing is generally scheduled within 10 days, according to the prosecutor's office. For more information, click here.
