PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The massacre in the Christchurch, New Zealand, was in the hearts and minds of parishioners attending Sunday mass in Society Hill.

Frank Thornton joined close to 200 fellow parishioners at Old Saint Joseph's Church, praying for the victims in the New Zealand shootings.

"We're all brothers and sisters together," he said.

Members like Robert Culleton admitted he came to church with a heavy heart, knowing the victims were Muslim.

"Their faith is a good and loving faith and we respect it and totally regard them as our brothers and sisters in the one race, the human race," Culleton said.

Parishioner Sarah Johnson says she's showing support in her prayers and says she's worried for her children.

"It's very difficult knowing I'm raising my children in a world where there is such tragedies like this. Absolutely trying to find ways to make sure they are respectful of all cultures and all people growing up," she said.
