Chester County Health Director Jeanne Casner said there are several factors behind the recommendation that all K-12 schools go virtual until Oct. 9.
Other factors include applying what they learned from other congregate settings like nursing homes, and making sure school districts have the time they need to ensure they’re ready to bring students back into schools.
She said there are no easy decisions, and they want children in classrooms.
“We know that is by far the best, but at the end of the day we also make sure that every school — regardless of what type of school, how big their population, what they’re building looks like — can do in a safe manner,” she added.
Feedback has been mostly positive, even though some districts that have already chosen a hybrid or in-person model are changing plans or reopening the conversation.
Casner said no matter what decision schools make, the Health Department will continue to back them.
