Dozens of schools closed in Philly suburbs for potential coronavirus exposure

LOWER MERION, Pa. (KYW Newsradio)  — Dozens of schools in our area are closed today because of coronavirus concerns.

When Montgomery County officials announced a CHOP doctor working in the King of Prussia facility contracted the virus overseas, it started a domino effect.

Officials say nine students, a staffer and a parent were exposed to the virus, leading to the closure of  the Lower Merion, Upper Merion and Norristown Area school districts, along with Simmons Elementary in Horsham. Additionally, Henderson and Unionville high schools and Patton Middle School in Chester County are aclosed; and Neshaminy High School is closed in Bucks County.

Unrelated to the CHOP doctor, Cheltenham Schools are closed for the rest of the week for cleaning. Officials say a parent was a caregiver to one of the presumptive positive cases in the state.

Buckingham Friends School in Bucks County is closed, as well, because a student may have been exposed to another patient with a likely case.

Germantown Academy is closed as well, because a student is related to one of the people sick with the virus.
