Drexel is 11-13 on the season (5-6 CAA) and coming off a 67-63 road win over Elon down in North Carolina on Saturday.
"I thought we got off to a good start. We've had some struggles getting good starts," Drexel head coach Zach Spiker said. "I thought from a scouting report (standpoint) we were pretty locked in. There were no surprises. The guys did a good job defending Elon and their unique actions. We kept them at bay from three-point shooting and did a good job on their best player Tyler Seibring (held to 11 points)."
Trevor John led Drexel in the Elon win with 14 points, and the Dragons got great work off the bench from redshirt freshman forward Tim Perry Jr. In just 14 minutes of work, Perry scored six points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
"Timmy is very tall, very long, and has a defensive presence automatically when he steps on the floor at 6'10"," Spiker said. "He's a natural shot-blocker. He has very good timing. He's just kind of coming into his own in terms of the ability to catch the ball and score in the low post. He had a great, great move in the second half. It's funny: If you look at Tim and what he's done in his career and his path, for the hardcore Philadelphia fans, it looks eerily similar to the path his father had at this point in his career early on in college (at Temple). I'm really excited about it if that's the case, because his dad was a very good player."
Drexel has already matched up with UNCW once this season, dropping a 97-83 decision down in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Jan. 12. The Seahawks shot 11 of 25 from three in that game.
"It's a team that has shown the ability to make a lot of threes some nights. Other nights they haven't shot as well," Spiker said. "We certainly allowed them to have a really, really good night from three. We need to do a better job limiting their activity in transition and limiting (senior forward) Devontae Cacok's ability down low."
Cacok had a huge game against the Dragons in that first game, finishing with 24 points and 12 rebounds for UNCW.
Thursday night's game at the DAC gets underway at 7 p.m.
