"The best thing to do when things are tense like this is you have to care and people have to be there for each other,” said Aziza Young, also known as Chef Z. She said the event was organized by her friend, chef Stephanie Willis.
Chef Z, who's now participating in the second Everybody Eats Philly, said this time, they've expanded to a second location at the Hank Gathers Recreation Center in North Philadelphia.
"I mean, in North Philadelphia, we're close to two or three projects, so we're expecting the people of North Philadelphia there. We're hoping that they come out and they get food and they get essentials that they may need,” she explained.
The event will also be held at 5630 Vine Street in West Philadelphia.
She said last time, about 600 people came out. They're expecting 900 people for the Friday celebration that also takes place on Juneteenth.
"Being as though we are a group of Black chefs, we definitely wanted to highlight that,” she said.
