PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A fallen Philadelphia police officer is remembered for his work on the force through the creation of a special program in his honor.

Officer Robert Wilson III was killed in the line of duty, protecting others while trying to stop a robbery in 2015.

"I feel as though my brother should still be here, I feel as though he still is here," his sister, Shaki'ra Wilson-Burroughs, said Thursday at the fifth anniversary of his death.

Wilson's friends, family and former colleagues gathered in front of his district building, 22nd District, in North Philadelphia for a memorial service honoring him.

"Losing Robbie, we lost every part of our family, everything that we could define as family we lost," Wilson-Burroughs said.

During the ceremony, Wilson-Burroughs announced her family is working to continue her brother's legacy with the creation of the Sgt. Robert F. Wilson III Foundation.

She says they want to continue Wilson's work in a meaningful way to the communities he serviced.

"The vision for this foundation is to encapsulate and personify everything that mattered to Robbie. This foundation will provide educational, charitable, and community-based programs and services," she explained.

Wilson was 30 when he died. He left behind a son and a daughter.
