PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Your library card from the Free Library of Philadelphia is now your passport to some choice museums and other attractions in the city. And, it could also qualify you for a shot at tickets to a Sixers or Flyers game, tickets right in Mayor Kenney's box.
The Free Library's Experience Pass was launched at the beginning of the month and it's designed to, of course, generate some interest in the library as more than a big repository of books.
Jamie Bowers is electronic resources coordinator for the Free Library and helped develop the new features for simply using your library card.
"We really looked at different locations across the city, different sizes, different types of institutions so that we'd have a diverse offering of programming," Bowers said.
So, by going online, you'll be able to book free entry into places like the Museum of the American Revolution, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, and even Eastern State Penitentiary.
Bowers says a connection to the city Managing Director's Office netted the passes to the Wells Fargo Center.
"The opportunity to go see a Flyers or a Sixers game in the mayor's box has encouraged some folks to register for a library card, and we just think that's spectacular because we have something for everyone here," he added.
You have to be at lease 18 and a city resident to sign up for a library card and use the Experience Pass.
