PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A tool to fight crime and illegal dumping in the Nicetown-Tioga section of Philadelphia is being offered at no cost to qualifying homeowners.

Councilwoman Cindy Bass representing the 8th District announced the new Community Leadership Caucus Camera Program.

"Its a whole other thing to have a tool like this that you can have at your home and pay attention to what is happening, and know what's happening on your block and be able to get that information to the appropriate authorities, so we can address issues," Bass said.

Members of neighborhood policing groups like the Community Leadership Caucus are eligible for the three wireless camera security system.

"You are giving us the tools now. Now we got tools. We are right on point with it and we are getting the training and everything. So I can't thank the councilwoman enough," said Majeedah Rashid, the COO of the Nicetown Community Development Corporation.

The cameras will be distributed through Councilwoman Bass' office.

Recipients must register with the Philadelphia police's SafeCam program, which allows police access to the surveillance video.
