NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy signed a number of bills into law Monday aimed at fighting an increase in foreclosures throughout the Garden State.

Murphy says New Jersey is taking its strongest steps yet to fight against foreclosures.

He says their rates are some of the worst in the nation.

"Not one, two, three, four, five, six, seven or eight but nine strong measures that will help us get to the top of scaling our foreclosure crisis," the governor said.

Murphy signed the laws in Atlantic city.

"Atlantic City remains the hardest hit metropolitan area of the entire country. Trenton ranks as number two. If there is a top two list you do not want to be on, this is one of them," Murphy said.

He says the bipartisan legislation will assist homeowners facing the prospect of foreclosure and pave the way for community revival by addressing blight.

"Nearly every community is dotted with homes that stand as reminders of the worst of the recession. Today, we begin the work of reclaiming these homes, for our families and for our future," he added.

Murphy says the bills address everything from foreclosure mediation programs to revisions to real estate foreclosure sales.
