Greater Philadelphia Film Office executive director Sharon Pinkenson says she was disappointed in City Council’s final budget vote Thursday, slashing $131,000 in annual funding.
Pinkenson says the city’s contribution represented about 20% of the film office budget with the balance coming from two fundraisers held annually.
But because of COVID-19, Pinkenson says they had postponed events to June, and then recently canceled them.
"We are looking at additional foundation grants. We are making some headway on earning some additional funds based on our mission. So as a nonprofit you can earn money,” she said.

She’s also been talking to potential donors, including some from the entertainment industry.
In the meantime, Pinkenson says the office, which has been operating remotely since March, is scaling back operations July 1.
She and her small staff also are taking 50% pay cuts.
