Hearings planned on proposed recreational trail across Camden County

CAMDEN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Camden County is planning a series of virtual public hearings on a long-debated plan to set up a 33-mile long bike and walking trail that’ll span the county and show off what it has to offer.

The first hearing is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m. Others will be held next month to review the results of a plan drawn up by designers, according to Camden County Freeholder Jeffrey Nash.

“It will carry people from the Ben Franklin Bridge down to Winslow Township,” Nash told KYW Newsradio. “Small businesses that are so vital to our economy along the trail have proven to do extremely well. It enhances the property values along the trail. So for recreation and economics, the trail is a win for Camden County.”

The route takes you through 17 municipalities in all. Most of the infrastructure for the proposed Camden County Link Trail is already in place. It’s just a matter of putting it together.

“We have a significant part of the trail that will include the Conrail right of way and we need to work hand in hand with Conrail to make sure that it’s safe for residents to use,” Nash added. “But it’s going to be designed. We want to make sure that there is public input in that design to ensure that it meets everyone’s needs and aesthetically matches the community.”

He hopes to see it come to fruition in about five years if everything goes right. Click here for more information or to sign up for one of the online hearings.
