No smoking now at bus shelters in Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — If you're waiting in a bus shelter in Philadelphia to catch your ride, don't light up.

Bus shelters throughout the city are now smoke-free, and city officials say they plan to put signs up at all the shelters to let people know.

Along Market Street east of City Hall, those signs are already up. They say "No Smoking, No Vaping, It's The Law."

Those words are written in three other languages besides English.

Genita Millhouse was waiting for her bus inside one of the shelters and says she's all for this.

"I think it's a great idea because I don't smoke and I don't like being around people that smoke because that smoke goes right into your lungs," she said. 

Amanda was in that same bus shelter, smoking a cigarette right under the "No Smoking" sign.

She said she didn't even notice the sign and said "maybe" when KYW Newsradio asked her if she would no longer smoke in the bus shelters.

"I usually just sit here for a few minutes, rest, smoke a cigarette then go about my business," she added. "I guess I won't be sitting here no more."

Amanda said she agrees with the idea behind the bus shelter smoking ban, she just wishes some of the shelters would be designated for smokers like her.
