Adam Leiter, with the East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District, said they had crafts, candy and of course, costumes.
"The biggest draw here is the costume contest for kids and for dogs," he said. "People go all out and really create some amazing, amazing costumes."
Some of those costumes were inspired by the City of Philadelphia. "We had an Eastern State Penitentary gargoyle win for Most Creative," Leiter recalled.
Afterward, there were a lot of costumed people walking around the avenue, who got a bonus day of collecting candy as they went trick-or-treating early at all the businesses.
"He came dressed as Batman and I came dressed as his sidekick," said Frances Quap.
Seven-year-old Paloma didn't leave empty-handed. "I got candy, pencils and a toy dinosaur," she said.
Rebecca Ohler loved bringing her family out to East Passyunk Avenue's Fall Festival and Spooky Saturday, because it was like an extra bonus to Halloween.
"Oh, it's fantastic," said Ohler. "It's great family fun, there's food, there's games, there's activities, the kids like looking for the scarecrows (to indicate participating businesses). It's safe."
She also said it was nice for the kids to get extra use of their Halloween costumes, because they grow so fast.
And you didn't need a pet or a child to enjoy the fun. Laura Oppenheim just liked spending time with loved ones. "I like seeing my friend and my sister and my niece," she said.
Leiter estimated several thousand people participated in the event. So that translates into how much candy?
"We have bought anywhere from 6,000 to 7,000 pieces of candy," said Leiter, "so I would say it's actually more than that because I'm just helping to supplement what the businesses are giving out of their own doors."
