"I went from being a defense attorney, an advocate, to someone who had to sit on the other side of the courtroom as a victim and someone who wanted to protect his children and the rest of our family from the after effects of this," Jones said.

Over the last decade, Jones, who is now running for the Court of Common Pleas in Delaware County, has made it her mission to advocate for victims of domestic violence.
"I'm involved in things like domestic abuse projects, and I'm a part of other advocacy groups that also work on those sort of issues," she said.
"You have to have a system that protects victims, but also has a fair process so that people aren't falsely accused," she added.
If elected, Jones would be the first black woman to hold the position in Delaware County.
"Having some diversity, having people look at the judges and see they are a microcosm of the entire county, makes a difference," she said.
Jones is one of nine Democrats running for four trial judge positions in the May primary.
