Philadelphia lawyer Brian Fritz started the effort last month by purchasing meals from area restaurants with his own money and delivering them to places like police stations and hospitals.
From that gesture grew an organization with partnerships, called Livelihoods to Lives.
"When you start doing something positive it's almost like a magnet and it just attracts other people and other things to it to swell a positive movement and that is what we are experiencing now," Fritz said.
Thousands of meals have been provided by the group. The program is also in South Jersey and has expanded into Los Angeles, Cleveland and Boca Raton.
Donations are being accepted.
"There are all sorts of ways to donate," Fritz explained. "They can donate their time. They can donate just to be physically present for support. So they don't necessarily have to donate financially."
