In a criminal complaint, Harleysville Police say Paul Resnick lit a candle inside his living room home on Huckleberry Lane on the morning of April 4. Resnick told police he then put a blanket over the candle and left the house.
He told police he only wanted to cause smoke damage so he could remodel the house and sell it. However, the fire got out of control and there was significant damage.
Resnick is charged with arson, insurance fraud and related crimes.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled May 22.
