Federal authorities say 39-year-old Peter Fratus of West Dennis, Massachusetts, sent two emails to Outlaw on June 6. Both emails, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office Eastern District of Pennsylvania, contained racist, offensive, and threatening language, with one asking her where she lives.
U.S. Attorney William McSwain describes the emails as “vile and disturbing.”
The FBI investigated, and forensic computer evidence from both emails led them to Fratus.
Fratus was arrested Tuesday and faced a federal magistrate in Massachusetts before he was transferred to Pennsylvania.
In a statement, McSwain said: “Anyone who might feel the urge to fire off an online threat directed at a public official: We will trace your digital footprint, track you down and hold you accountable.”
If convicted, Fratus faces a maximum of five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
