PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia Police say a man took his ex-girlfriend's 2-year-old girl away after a fight overnight. After nearly 10 hours, the girl was located and is safe and sound.

Around 11:30 a.m., detectives carried the young girl into the Mount Airy rowhome that she was taken from in the middle of the night. Police say she was located at 13th Street and Allegheny Avenue.

After a few minutes, detectives put the girl in a car seat in the back of a police SUV, and took her to the hospital to get checked out.

The ordeal started around 2 a.m. on Ross Street near Sharpnack Street, when police say a man and his ex-girlfriend were fighting. Authorities say he smashed the front window of the house, took his ex's daughter, and drove off in what is believed to be her car.

Police say they were able to communicate with him because he had his ex's cell phone. The mother was taken to a nearby police station to talk to investigators.

It's not clear where the child was the entire time, who she was with, or who handed her over to police, but authorities say they don't believe she was hurt.
