The sun is beaming down on those on the boardwalk and the beach. Weather-wise, Mysel Gomez-Landis said you couldn’t ask for a better weekend.
“It was perfect,” he said. “Wasn’t too hot, wasn’t too cold. It was perfect.”
Debra Field, a North Jerseyan who visited Ocean City for the first time, is soaking it all in, too.
“A full day on the beach. It’s gonna be 80 degrees and gorgeous, and it’s just a lot of family fun,” she said.
“This has been the best weekend of the summer for us,” echoed Patrick Warner of Springfield, Delaware County. “I have my kids, my grandkids, everybody was down. We got nice beach days. It was very splendid.”
“The meal was fantastic, and it just felt so good to do something (that gives) a sense of normalcy,” Field added.
Of course, with the pandemic still ongoing, every little bit helps the shops and restaurants. They hope people will keep coming, especially with remote working and learning going on, so some are stretching their seasons past Labor Day.
As a result, Ocean City is extending beach patrols. After Labor Day, nine beaches will be guarded through Sept. 20. Then, six beaches until Sept. 27.
Beach exercises have also been extended to the beginning of October.
