“Anywhere from eight to 14 days. And that goes for Quest and LabCorp, whoever CVS and Rite Aid are using,” she said.
She said some hospitals can turn tests around faster, but only in a limited capacity for cases that are more time sensitive.
The county has signed on with Mako Medical, a testing lab in North Carolina. Under the contract, the lab has to turn results around within 36 hours.
“That should really, really help us do contact tracing because we’ll be getting results back so quickly,” she added.
She said a few things still need to be ironed out, like information technology integration, but she hopes they’ll start sending them samples within a week to 10 days.
The county will still have a contract with Quest.
She also said the county has seen an increase in the number of cases coming out of youth sports, including baseball, football, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, and basketball.
