Since December, Moorestown's Tamar Hovnanian and her daughters Ella Hovnanian and Annabelle Hovnanian have been making 350 sandwiches per month and donating them to Camden's Cathedral Kitchen.
"Within 36 hours, we had 600 sandwiches at our door. We were so amazed and inspired really about how quickly our community responded,” she said.
Weeks later, almost 10,000 packages of sandwiches — some with uplifting messages — have been delivered, and personal care items have been donated, with the help of 250 other families.
"Overwhelming to us. It has just been amazing, not just for me, but for my girls to see hundreds of families leaving sandwiches for our neighbors who are in desperate need right now,” Hovnanian said.
And it's helped her daughters learn valuable lessons, especially for her 9-year-old, whose “spirit was really shaken with it.”
