On Monday, however, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announced more funding to fuel the rebuilding process.
"We have completed all the required paperwork, federal approvals and public hearings needed for us to provide an additional $50 million in federal funds to homeowners struggling to finish rebuilding their Sandy-damaged homes," said Murphy at the Shark River Municipal Marina in North Jersey, speaking before many people who are still out of their homes.

The funding will come through the Department of Community Affairs.
"For roughly 1,000 families still rebuilding through the state's programs, Superstorm Sandy never left," Murphy added. "Homeowners will soon be able to apply through the Department of Community Affairs for the funding they need to complete the rebuilding of their homes. And we're going to be with them every step of the way through this process to make it as easy and as stress-free as possible."
In addition, rental assistance provided by the Department of Housing and Urban Development has been extended an additional 19 months, for a total of 40 months. Murphy said the funding helps families who have had to pay for a mortgage on their damaged home and rent to live somewhere else.
