"It really did take off. I was surprised by how many people wanted to donate,” she said.
She created a Facebook page calling it Neighbors helping Neighbors and asked her community to drop food inside her garage. She would then organize for people to pick up the food and in some cases, she'd even deliver it.
"My ultimate goal in life is just to help and make a difference,” she said.
Up to 30 families so far have benefited from the lunches for kids, canned goods and even vegetables.
Sherman bags up items on Sundays for pickup the next day, which comes in handy for Lisa Hawbecker, a single mom of two who Sherman delivers to.
"Because of our medical history and because of my children's special needs, we have to be extremely cautious. We appreciate it very much,” Hawbecker said.
Sherman plans to expand her reach to neighboring towns.
