Murphy signs executive order directing NJ Transit, private carriers to cut passenger capacity

UPDATED: Sunday, April 12 at 4:15 p.m.

TRENTON, N.J (KYW Newsradio)  Gov. Phil Murphy announced Sunday the state has 3,733 additional positive coronavirus cases, bringing the state total to 61,850 cases. With 168 additional coronavirus-related deaths, the total is now at 2,350 deaths.

He also said the state has secured an additional 200 ventilators from the federal government.

Murphy announced Saturday he is signing an executive order directing NJ Transit and all private carriers to cut passenger capacity on all trains, buses, light rail vehicles, and paratransit vehicles to 50% maximum. NJ Transit and private carriers must give their workers face coverings and gloves.

All riders are also required to wear a face covering when traveling.

And starting Monday evening, residents are now required to wear a face covering when going into a restaurant or bar to pick up their food. If you aren’t going into the establishment, you are not required to wear a face covering.

Some 18,000 retired medical professionals have volunteered to come back to work and help, Murphy said. And over six dozen EMT crews from out of state are now in New Jersey, lending their expertise to the recovery effort.
