SEA ISLE CITY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — It's the holiday season, but it's never too early to start thinking about summer, right?

In fact, work is now underway on a project in Sea Isle City that will make part of the Jersey Shore town look more attractive, among other benefits.

"We are starting phase one of a Promenade lighting improvement project which will replace the older lights with modern, more energy efficient and decorative lighting," explained public information officer Katherine Custer.

Those older lights have been around for decades.

"It will be an improvement, not only beautifying the Promenade, but also adding energy efficient lighting along the way," she said.

The new lights are being installed along part of the 1.5-mile Promenade, from 35th to 44th streets.

"The system will also include a public address system," Custer told KYW Newsradio. "The new lighting will all have a speaker system along the way that will be utilized for reminders. For example, we have certain hours bicycles are allowed on our Promenade."

She said the public address system "will be carefully utilized" for those reminders and for emergencies only, like a missing child for example.

"We see tens of thousands of people along the Promenade each summer," added Custer. "Certainly it's one of the most important parts of our resort community, so we think it'll be a very popular project once it comes to fruition."

The project is expected to be finished in time for summer 2020.
