PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Parking workers in Philadelphia are fed up with their working conditions and took their frustration to some of the businesses they are unhappy with.

With signs in hand, more than three dozen workers and supporters quietly marched into the lobby of the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Center City to protest the hotel's parking company.

"The demonstration here today is because one of the parking companies (that) actually parks cars here is not supportive of these workers," Daisy Cruz said.

Cruz says the workers are asking for better treatment and a fair wage.

"Workers go to work every single day not sure about their safety and the conditions, and not being able to talk about that with their employers without being terminated or being disciplined," Cruz said.

After marching through the hotel, the demonstrators took their protest to Broad Street where they became more vocal about their demands.

A bill requiring parking employers to demonstrate “just cause” to fire an employee and one mandating minimum staffing at garages just made their way out of committee and are headed to Philadelphia City Council.
