Webster Elementary School in Frankford is one of 80 food distribution sites for Philadelphia school students.
“I understand there were some 600 or so meals distributed from this site on Monday,” said Superintendent Dr. William Hite.
Hite said they limited food pickup to Mondays and Thursdays to reduce the amount of days people have to come out, and on those days, students will receieve three breakfasts and three lunches.
Parent Lee Roy Smith said these grab-and-go meals have been a lifesaver in his house.
“I'd probably be home wondering where my next meal was coming from,” without this option, he said.
Hite is also encouraging families to feed their minds when they come in for their meals.
“Individuals can also pick up learning packets, and those packets will be available at the meal distribution sites,” Hite said.
The meals include milk, fruit, vegetables and sandwiches.
