Back on my Feet, a support organization serving homeless people, set up a makeshift running gym at the City Fitness on E. Market Street to raise money.
"We have 16 treadmills running for eight hours to raise $50,000 for Back on my Feet Philadelphia," said Development Director Rebecca Little. The national nonprofit, active in 12 sites, uses running to combat homelessness.
They partner with people living in shelters and recovery facilities, to assist them with employment and housing.
"Those individuals come run with us Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5:30 in the morning," Little said. "After 30 days of running with us, they are working with our social work team to find employment and housing."
Lilly from Center City said she took a break from her studies and paid to hit those treadmills.
"Because it's a great running community, and it's a healthy way to be social," she said.
The treadmills run until 8 p.m.
