Police: Man confesses to killing mother, step-father, 2 step-brothers in West Philly home

UPDATED: 6 p.m.

Acting Police Commissioner Christine Coulter said Louis admitted he killed his mother, Janet Woodson; stepfather, Leslie Holmes; and 18- and 7-year-old stepbrothers. And he even showed the cops where the bodies were.

Coulter says at this point they're not sure why Louis did what he did.

"I don't know if there was a trigger or anything that made him snap at that point. He was living in the home with the family so I couldn’t begin to delve into what would make somebody do something so horrific," she said.

Police say they went to the house in the first place for a wellness check, because Louis' parents, both in their 50s, didn't show up for work.

"He told the officers at the scene. He revealed that he had killed them. Then they went through the house and, one by one, discovered the family members who were deceased in the house. He didn't resist them at the time and he was taken into custody."

According to sources, Louis legally bought the shotgun he used and had it in a bag on the El on Tuesday.

Cops say Louis had no criminal background, and they were never called to the house before.

Neighbors say Louis was dealing with mental health issues, but Coulter says she didn't have medical confirmation of any of that.

Grief counselors are at the schools the two young victims attended, with four grief counseling stations set up in the library of Jacquelyn Y. Kelley Discovery Charter School, where 7-year-old Leslie Woodson was a student and 18-year-old Sy-eed Woodson had graduated from a few years ago.

The stations included a "I don't want to talk station," a "I want to talk station," a "crying station," and a "drawing station."

"They are devastated. He was just a kind gentle spirit," school CEO Tonia Elmore said about Leslie, who was in second grade.

"And his brother Sy-eed graduated from Discovery Charter School in 2016. He actually accompanied us to Italy and we knew he was going places, so we were looking to see where he was going to go after Boy's Latin," Elmore added.

The counseling will continue at the school as long as needed.
