The alert said there was an active shooter at St. Monica Hall, a residence hall, but police say it was a false alarm.
"100% certain that there was no shooting situation and no threat to the students," Lt. Shawn Dietrich with Radnor police said.
Radnor and Villanova Police Department have cleared St. Monica's Hall at Villanova University and can confirm there is NO THREAT.
— RadnorPD (@RadnorPD) September 2, 2019Megan and Eleanor, two students who live in St. Monica Hall, said they were in their friend's room on the first floor when they heard a knock on the door. When they opened the door, they found a police officer who told them to evacuate.
"So we ran out the hallway, went outside. And then we're standing here in the grass and then we got the text on our phone saying 'active shooter'," said Megan.
She said when they received the text, they ran and hid in the back of the dining hall.
"... When we heard people start to say 'active shooter,' then we ran in on our own and just kept running to the back until there was, like, nowhere else to run to," Eleanor said.
After the hall was cleared, police let students go back into the dorm.
"You, like, wanna call your family and you wanna stay on the phone with them but you can't 'cause you don't wanna make noise," Eleanor said. "So we just kinda like hung up with our parents and just prayed and just, like, tried to stay as quiet as possible and not freak out the best we could."
