BUCKS COUNTY, Pa. (KYW Newsradio)  Many restaurants in Philadelphia's surrounding counties are reopening, but in a more alfresco fashion.

In order to reopen, the Pineville Tavern on Route 413 brought in a large pole tent, called a Sperry tent, and put it up over the outdoor garden, which owner Andrew Abruzzese said was ready last Friday.

"We had to make some adjustments in the seating, the floor plan, and we put up the tent. And sure enough, the first night, it rained like crazy,” he said, laughing. “We squeezed about 88 seats under the tent."

He said what's amazing is patrons are so happy to be out.

"This is why I got into this business, to see smiling faces, it just does your heart so, so good. It really does,” he added.

Steve Jacobs, owner of Jake's Eatery in Richboro, said customers returned on Saturday after he put some tables in the parking lot right next to busy Bustleton Pike.

"I said, ‘I apologize, it's not the best environment, sitting in a parking lot overlooking the road, loud trucks going by and so forth.’ But they said they are just thrilled to be out of the house, thrilled to not have to make their own lunch,” Jacobs said.

He’s hoping the parking lot dining is only temporary and indoor dining can resume soon.

Conor Riley and Benna Cooper came to catch up at Jake's and said they loved the new setting.

"It's very different because they've never done this before, but I think it's good,” Riley said.
