Out of 129 workers tested so far by the state, 57 are positive. Four more farms will see workers tested this week. County officials, while glad to see these tests being ramped up, have their concerns.
Jody Hirata, Cumberland County’s Deputy Administrator, notes these workers are likely to have a hard time social distancing because of housing arrangements.
“I know they’re doing the very best they can here, and that’s a tough one,” he added, “and the mobile units that will be on site testing is an excellent idea.”
There’s a delicate balance here between protecting and treating the workers and getting the product to market in a timely fashion.
The state says quarantine arrangements are being set up at the Salem Medical Center and the South Jersey COVID-19 field hospital inside the Atlantic City Convention Center.
