What roads to avoid during citywide St. Patrick's Day Parade

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The city will be completely green this weekend, but not for the Eagles.

The annual Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade takes place Sunday, beginning at 11:15 a.m.

The parade, hosted by the Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day Observance Association, will start at 16th Street and JFK Boulevard and will march toward Independence Mall, ending at Penn's Landing. 

Performances will be shown at the main stages at Fifth and Market streets until 3 p.m., rain or shine.

Like any citywide parade, you can anticipate traffic delays, so avoid the following roads and public transportation routes.

The following streets will be closed from 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

Market Street between Fifth and Sixth streets

The following streets will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.:

JFK Boulevard between 15th and 20th streets20th Street between Market and Arch streets19th Street between Market and Arch streets18th Street between Market and Arch streets17th Street between Market and Arch streets16th Street between Market and Arch streets15th Street between Market and Arch streets

The following streets will be closed from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.:

JFK Boulevard between 15th and Juniper streetsJuniper Street between JFK Boulevard and Market StreetMarket Street between Juniper and Front streetsAll cross streets on Market Street from 13th to Front streets, between Chestnut and Arch streetsFront Street between Market and Chestnut streets

Avoid parking on the following streets between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m.:

The 1400 to 2000 block of JFK Boulevard 

Avoid parking on the following streets between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m.:

Fifth Street between Chestnut and Market streetsSixth Street between Chestnut and Race streetsRace Street between Fifth and Sixth streetsMarket Street from Juniper to Front streetsFront Street between Market and Chestnut streets

Additionally, SEPTA bus routes 2, 4, 5, 16, 17, 21, 23, 42, 45, 27, 31, 32, 33, 38, 44, 47, 47M, 48, 57, 61, 124 and 125 will be detoured from their normal routes between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
