PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A former Pennsylvania State Police trooper was sentenced up to a decade in state prison on Monday for possessing child sexual abuse material and creating AI-generated pornography.
Stephen Kamnik, 40, pleaded guilty to 14 charges earlier this year, admitting he viewed illicit images of a child younger than 10 years old on his phone and that he used his State Police computer and workstation to create AI-generated pornography and access PennDOT driver's license and ID photo databases to get photos to make deepfakes.
He also snuck into the women’s locker room at the Skippack barracks and photographed coworkers’ bras and underwear that they’d stored in their locker while on duty.
Montgomery County judge Todd Eisenberg told Kamnik that he used his job to find victims instead of keeping people safe.
Eisenberg sentenced Kamnik to 5 to 10 years in state prison followed by seven years' probation. He is not allowed to be around minors or work in law enforcement, security or IT.
Kamnik was found to be a sexually violent predator and will be required to register under Megan’s Law for the rest of his life.
He apologized for his conduct and said he destroyed his career, his marriage and failed as a father. He added that he has no one to blame but himself and should have thought of the consequences.
