Congratulations to some of you who have been successfully working from home for the past month and not putting on real pants.
It’s an unusual situation we find ourselves in, but there are still things to do in and around Philadelphia — from a distance.
If you’ve already watched Joel McHale’s “The Tiger King and I” aftershow on Netflix and need something to do that is actually worth your time, The KYW To-Do List has your back.
We’re all in this together, so let’s try to make the most of it.
FOOD AND DRINK
The online catalog of liquor is almost always unresponsive at Fine Wine and Good Spirits, and grocery stores that actually carry wine and beer are not always in close proximity, so you may be thinking all hope is lost.
Fear not: Check out Take Out COVID’s interactive map, where you can specify which libation you’d like — plus some food options.
If beer is your preference, look to City Brew Tours, where you can learn to pair your brew with different kinds of cheese, or learn to make it yourself.
Can’t get enough of “Tiger King” on Netflix? Evil Genius Beer Company in Fishtown is debuting an inspired pale ale called “Felt Cute, Might Feed My Husband to a Tiger Later IDK.” A growler of it is available for carryout or same-day delivery.
#SavePhillyEats also has a catalog of unique culinary experiences, like a paella cooking class with Jose Garces, or a one-on-one barbecue instruction from Mike’s BBQ.
ENTERTAINMENT
Check out Visit Philadelphia’s Facebook for Philly Live Weekends, a livestream series featuring different Philadelphians. Past streams have included a performance from a Ballet X dancer and Drag Story Time with Vinchelle.
We didn’t forget about you sports fans either. KYW Newsradio spoke to a few, and they say they’re doing everything from watching old games to joining Twitch to watch live Madden video games (really).
STAY ACTIVE
Parks in New Jersey are closed for the time being, but you can still stretch your legs in Pennsylvania, as long as you maintain a social distance. However, many park amenities, like bathrooms, picnic areas and vistor’s centers, are closed.
Choose wisely.
Clean Air Council is hosting virtual 5K, 10K runs and a 3K walk. It’s easy to participate. Just register online, then hit the streets using a running app to record your time and submit it between April 18 and May 1.
SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY
You can #BeALight to show solidarity for those affected by pandemic by setting up candles, string lights or whatever you have handy in your home at night.
The Philadelphia Virtual Tip Jar is another way to support the staff of your favorite bars and restaurants with a Venmo or PayPal tip. You can search for an individual person to tip. Otherwise, payments will be split up and divided among list members.
FOR THE KIDS
There are endless options for creating cool art while at home.
Take a step back in time and learn to write your name in ancient Egytpian hieroglyphs, or draw superhero Captain Underpants with illustrator Dave Pilkey.
Participate in the 10-day challenge from the American Heart Association, which combines physical, community and mindful activities to help beat cabin fever. See if your child’s school is already registered here.
