ST. DAVIDS, P.A. (KYW Newsradio) — Charges have been announced against three men for their alleged involvement in the rape of a student at Eastern University earlier this year.
The Delaware County District Attorney’s Office said 20-year-old Dontae Williams or Philadelphia, and 19-year-old Chase Thompson of Collingdale are charged with multiple counts of rape of an unconscious victim, sexual assault and indecent assault. A third man, Naeem Turner, is charged with invasion of privacy for allegedly taking photos and videos of the incident and sending them to a contact in his phone.
Officials said the alleged rape happened in the overnight hours between Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, and after a night of drinking, a female student at Eastern contacted Turner to meet up. Investigators said Turner told her that his cousins were at his dorm, but she could come by if she wanted to. The DA’s office said the woman, who was intoxicated, fell asleep on a bed and was sexually assaulted by Williams and Thompson.
The woman told detectives she woke up several times during the night to the men having sex with her. In the morning, she told her friends what happened and they called the police. She was also taken to the hospital where a rape kit was performed. Police also went to the dorm and arrested the men there.
In a statement responding to the incident, Eastern University said student safety “remains our highest priority,” and that it acted swiftly, cooperating with the Radnor Police Department in its investigation.
“We are grieved by this situation and the impact it has had on those involved,” read part of the statement. “As a Christian university, we are committed to the safety and well-being of our students.”
The university also said Turner, who was a student at the time of the alleged rape, is no longer enrolled at the school.
