SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — The Jersey Shore is usually filled with food, fun and fireworks during the Fourth of July weekend. While this year is no different, there’s even more happening, with events ranging from concerts to collectibles shows.
If that isn’t enough, you can catch one of the biggest (and scariest) beach movies this weekend, at an outdoor screening in Seaside Heights.
No matter what you and your family are looking to do, we’ve got your rundown on this holiday weekend down the shore.
Sunday Night Movies at the Beach: Jaws
Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water, Seaside Heights kicks off their free series of outdoor movies with Steven Spielberg’s classic “Jaws.”
Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw star in the thriller about a beach town menaced by a great white shark. It was the original summer blockbuster, and has brought in more than $475 million since its 1975 release.
The movie starts at dusk on Sunday, June 7, with audience members seated on the sand in the vicinity of North Patrol Beach Headquarters. In the event of rain, it’ll be moved to Tuesday.
Ocean City Pops: Star-Spangled Spectacular and Greatest Hits
It isn’t the Fourth of July without a stirring soundtrack. For the music lovers out there, the Ocean City Pops take the stage with two shows this weekend.
First, the orchestra rings in America’s birthday Thursday with its free Star-Spangled Spectacular at Carey Stadium. The show starts at 8 p.m. at Carey Stadium and features patriotic tunes and pop hits.
Then on Sunday night, the Pops dip into their catalog — from folk, funk and soul to soaring Hollywood scores — for a greatest hits concert at Ocean City Music Pier. Tickets for this concert are available for $22 and $27.
Cape May Independence Day Parade
Cape May honors its veterans with its Independence Day Parade on Saturday starting at 1 p.m., featuring string bands, local leaders, classic cars and more.
Organizers also encourage people to deck out their bikes, baby carriages and golf carts in the red, white and blue, with a prize for the best decoration. The winners will be announced in front of Convention Hall right after the parade.
In case of rain, Cape May officials will postpone the event to Sunday.
Sports Card, Toys, Comics and Collectibles Show
Are you looking for that one issue of “Uncanny X-Men” missing from your run? How about a vintage rookie baseball card to complete your set? There will be more than 180 vendors at the Wildwoods Convention Center this weekend, selling everything from comics and coins to antiques and action figures. The free collectibles show runs 3 – 8 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Wildwood Drone Show
For those who like their Independence Day festivities with more light than sound, there’s a drone show Sunday at 9:30 p.m. in Wildwood, on the beach across from Fox Park. Visitors can see dazzling displays and patterns dancing across the night sky.
