PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with volunteer opportunities and events across the Philadelphia area. Center City’s Restaurant Week also kicks off with prix-fixe lunch and dinner options at more than 60 locations.

WHERE: Museum of the American Revolution, 101 S. 3rd St., Old City

DETAILS: Honor Dr. Martin Luther King’s Jr.’s legacy with special programming at the museum, including “Wait Means Never: A Musical Exploration of MLK’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” which incorporates singing, instrumental music and spoken word performance. There will also be theatrical performances, hands-on activities and a new tour called “Black Voices of the Revolution,” which highlights the experiences of people of African descent during the American Revolution.

DETAILS: Listen as guest speakers read “Letter from Birmingham Jail” during all-day special programming. Speakers will read texts from other civil rights leaders, including Frederick Douglass, Angela Y. Davis, Malcolm X and Ida B. Wells. There will also be activities for kids, voter registration and opportunities to write letters to people who are incarcerated in Pennsylvania.

EVENT: Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service

DATE/TIME: Monday

WHERE: Various locations and Girard College, 2101 S College Ave., Fairmount

DETAILS: Join the 28th annual Martin Luther King Day of Service by registering online to participate in activities and volunteer opportunities in the tristate area. The “Signature Site” event takes place at Girard College from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and includes hands-on service projects, a health fair, workshops, civic engagement projects and activities for the kids.

DETAILS: More than 60 restaurants in the Center City area will take part in almost two weeks of three-course prix-fixe menus. Options include $40 dinners and $25 lunches and can be enjoyed indoors, outdoors or by take out at select restaurants.
