Eastern State’s Halloween Nights, Doylestown Music Fest, and more things to do this weekend

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — ’Tis the season for boos and brews.

Eastern State Penitentiary is kicking off its annual haunted house attraction, Peddler’s Village is putting its uniquely decorated scarecrows on display, and a few neighborhoods are hosting Oktoberfest-like festivals.

EVENT: Halloween Nights at Eastern State Penitentiary

DATE: Select nights through Nov. 13

WHERE: Eastern State Penitentiary, 2027 Fairmount Ave., Fairmount

DETAILS: Eastern State Penitentiary celebrates spooky season with 15 different attractions within its walls. There will be haunted houses, immerse walk-throughs and performances, themed bars and lounges, and plenty of opportunities to learn about the penitentiary’s history.

EVENT: Scarecrows in the Village

DATE: Through Oct. 30

WHERE: Peddler’s Village, 100 Peddlers Village, New Hope

DETAILS: The 42nd annual Scarecrows in the Village has more than 100 scarecrows on display, and you can vote for your favorite. There will also be live music, pumpkin painting and fall-inspired specials at local restaurants.

EVENT: Ardmore Oktoberfest

DATE/TIME: Saturday, 5 to 8 p.m.

WHERE: Schauffele Plaza, 99 Cricket Terrace, Ardmore

DETAILS: The 11th annual Oktoberfest has some local and seasonal beer favorites. There will also be German-inspired fare like bratwurst, pretzels and more.

EVENT: Kölsch Fest

DATE/TIME: Sunday, 12 to 8 p.m.

WHERE: Love City Brewing, 1023 Hamilton St., Callowhill

DETAILS: Enjoy some German-style beers at Love City Brewing in its outdoor space. Your $10 ticket gets you a glass and your first beer, and each extra pour is $3.

EVENT: Fall Fest

DATE/TIME: Through Oct. 30

WHERE: Shady Brook Farm, 931 Stony Hill Road, Yardley

DETAILS: Fall is here! Shady Brook Farm is celebrating with wagon rides, a five-acre corn maze, sunflowers, pumpkin picking, live music, and more.

EVENT: Last chance for Summerfest

DATE: Last day is Sunday

WHERE: Delaware River Waterfront, 101 S. Columbus Blvd., Penn’s Landing

DETAILS: It’s the last weekend to participate in Summerfest’s many activities, like roller skating, boardwalk games, rides, mini golf, and more.

EVENT: Arts Montco Week

WHERE: Different locations across Montgomery County

DETAILS: More than 200 arts and culture venues are opening their doors for special arts programming. Get your fill of live music, live theater, comedy clubs and more.

EVENT: Opening Celebration of “The Stories We Wear”

DATE/TIME: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WHERE: Penn Museum, 3260 South St., University City

DETAILS: Come out for this celebration of Penn Museum’s new exhibit, “The Stories We Wear.” View fashion from the past 2,500 years and how clothing has always been a way for a person to express themselves. There will be 250 pieces of attire, jewelry, uniforms, regalia, and tattoos on view.

EVENT: Horticulture Volunteer Day

DATE/TIME: Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

WHERE: Bartram’s Garden, 5400 Lindbergh Blvd., Southwest Philadelphia

DETAILS: Volunteers will help with a variety of upkeep around the gardens, including seasonal planting, weeding, invasive species removal, and greenhouse maintenance.

EVENT: Doylestown Music Fest

DATE: Through Saturday

WHERE: Dommel Way parking lot, near Court and State streets, Doylestown

DETAILS: Support local musicians and arts in Doylestown with a local line-up to groove to. Restaurants, bars, cafes, merchants, churches and museums in the area will all play host to a series of shows through Saturday night.
