Eastern State Penitentiary is kicking off its annual haunted house attraction, Peddler’s Village is putting its uniquely decorated scarecrows on display, and a few neighborhoods are hosting Oktoberfest-like festivals.

EVENT: Halloween Nights at Eastern State Penitentiary
DATE: Select nights through Nov. 13
WHERE: Eastern State Penitentiary, 2027 Fairmount Ave., Fairmount
DETAILS: Eastern State Penitentiary celebrates spooky season with 15 different attractions within its walls. There will be haunted houses, immerse walk-throughs and performances, themed bars and lounges, and plenty of opportunities to learn about the penitentiary’s history.

EVENT: Scarecrows in the Village

WHERE: Peddler’s Village, 100 Peddlers Village, New Hope
DETAILS: The 42nd annual Scarecrows in the Village has more than 100 scarecrows on display, and you can vote for your favorite. There will also be live music, pumpkin painting and fall-inspired specials at local restaurants.

EVENT: Ardmore Oktoberfest
DATE/TIME: Saturday, 5 to 8 p.m.
WHERE: Schauffele Plaza, 99 Cricket Terrace, Ardmore
DETAILS: The 11th annual Oktoberfest has some local and seasonal beer favorites. There will also be German-inspired fare like bratwurst, pretzels and more.

EVENT: Kölsch Fest

EVENT: Opening Celebration of “The Stories We Wear”

DETAILS: Come out for this celebration of Penn Museum’s new exhibit, “The Stories We Wear.” View fashion from the past 2,500 years and how clothing has always been a way for a person to express themselves. There will be 250 pieces of attire, jewelry, uniforms, regalia, and tattoos on view.

EVENT: Horticulture Volunteer Day
