This weekend in Philly: New Year’s Eve fireworks, Mummers Parade and more

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — We’re entering the last few days of 2022 and the beginning of 2023 this weekend. Kwanzaa celebrations are in full swing at the African American Museum in Philadelphia, and there’s a historic tour in Old City with guides portraying historical figures. Then, ring in the new year with fireworks and the Mummers Parade.

EVENT: Rivers Casino New Year’s Eve Fireworks

DATE/TIME: Shows at 6 p.m. Saturday and midnight

WHERE: Best viewing spots include Cherry Street Pier, the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, Race Street Pier and Winterfest

DETAILS: It’s the end of 2022 already?! Ring in 2023 with fireworks on the waterfront and tune into KYW Newsradio for the official choreographed soundtrack.

Mummers Parade and Fancy Brigade Fest Finale

EVENT: Mummers Parade and Fancy Brigade Fest Finale

PARADE: 9 a.m. Sunday

Route starts at City Hall and heads down Broad Street to Washington Avenue

FESTIVAL: 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday

Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch St., Center City

DETAILS: There are plenty of opportunities to catch the Mummers strut on New Year’s Day. About 10,000 participants will compete for bragging rights during the parade, which features five divisions. If you prefer an indoor venue, the 12 Fancy Brigades clubs will put on sequin-studded performances inside the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

EVENT: Historic Philadelphia Walking Tour

DATE: Through Friday

WHERE: Tour starts at 599 Market St., Old City

DETAILS: Take a step back in time and explore America’s past with a History Maker, a guide who portrays people from Philadelphia’s colonial era. The tour will stop at locations like the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.

PRICE: Adults are $15, kids are $7

Kwanzaa at the African American Museum in Philadelphia

EVENT: Kwanzaa at the African American Museum in Philadelphia

DATE: Events through Sunday

WHERE: African American Museum in Philadelphia, 701 Arch St., Center City

DETAILS: Celebrate the remaining days of Kwanzaa with programming at the African American Museum. Events include a night market, gallery walkthrough, vision board and collaging workshop, food making, meditation, and more.

EVENT: Blue Cross Riverrink Winterfest

WHERE: 101 S. Columbus Blvd., Penns Landing

DETAILS: Ice skating is back along the riverfront with staggered 90-minute skate sessions. The Lodge bar is a perfect way to warm up after you skate with seasonal cocktails and local brews.

A Longwood Christmas

EVENT: A Longwood Christmas

DATE/TIME: Through Jan. 8

WHERE: Longwood Gardens, 1001 Longwood Road, Kennett Square

DETAILS: Christmas returns to Longwood Gardens with seasonal floral designs and trees, holiday lights and more. Miniature trains will be set up in the indoor gardens and the Open Air Theatre fountains will be lit up in holiday colors and dance to Christmas music.
