Chocoholics may have to dig a little deeper into their pockets next holiday season to get their fix. The maker of beloved Hershey's chocolates is planning to raise the price of their seasonal candy offerings this year.

In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Hershey’s CEO Michele Buck said the company plans to raise prices on miniature chocolate bars, Kisses and seasonal shapes for their 2021 holiday season, according to Delish.

This is the first time the company has increased the price of the treats since 2014, according to the report.

Buck has not said exactly how large the candy price hike will be, but she says consumers can expect the price increase at local retailers.

In a recent interview with CNBC, Buck made a connection between Hershey’s treats and coronavirus.

“This past year, we noticed that wherever COVID case counts were elevated, we were seeing increased sales of s’mores ingredients, and then we were able to use that case count trajectory as a foreshadow of where we should focus some of those efforts and build displays and put media in those markets," Buck told the outlet.

Delish predicts that the relationship between COVID cases and s’mores may be due to the increased effort to partake in outdoor activities to reduce the spread of the virus.

The candy company has also seen an increase in demand for products like seasonal candy, as people are stuck inside and looking for ways to brighten up smaller celebrations.
