PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Former KYW Newsradio anchor Lesley Van Arsdall and former Philadelphia Eagles great Brian Westbrook have teamed up to put out a new children’s book, “The Mouse Who Played Football.”
Van Arsdall said she had thought about writing a children’s book for awhile.
“I think from having two young boys and reading so many of them, I was like, ‘I think I can do this. I’d love to do it,’” said Van Arsdall.
“They LOVE football, they are obsessed with football, but they’re not necessarily the biggest kids in the class. So it was just a rough outline, and then basically my husband was like, ‘You do know this is Brian Westbrook’s story?’ And I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, it is!’”
She teamed up with Westbrook, who said having this book based on him in special.
“My kids didn’t see me play, and so they all hear these crazy stories about what dad used to be,” said Westbrook.
“They’re probably just like me when I was a kid and my dad was a really great athlete, but the stories are just the stories. It's just someone telling stories. Being able to read this book to them and share the story, where they can see it in black and white, this takes fatherhood to a different level.”
If Van Arsdall and Westbrook decide to put together more children’s book based on Westbrook’s stories career, there’s no shortage of ideas, like “The Mouse Who Took a Knee at the One Yard Line.”
