PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — How do you make a dream come true? North Philly WNBA star Kahleah Copper will tell you. It's not by wishing on a star. It's by doing the work.
"I worked so f---ing hard," Copper told ESPN's Holly Rowe on the court after her Chicago Sky took down the Phoenix Mercury 3-1 in the WNBA Finals. "I worked so hard!"
Copper was named MVP after averaging 17 points per game in the Finals, while shooting 50% from the floor.
Copper graduated from Preparatory Charter School in Philadelphia's Point Breeze, where she became a McDonald's All-American. She then played for Rutgers from 2012 to 2016 before becoming the seventh overall pick by the Washington Mystics later that year.
She was a Mystic for only one season before she was traded to the Sky. Copper came off the bench for most of her first three seasons in Chicago, and in 2020 she became a starter.
The 27-year-old became a first-time All-Star this year -- and she has captured the title of Finals MVP after the Sky rallied in the fourth quarter to win the Game 4 clincher.
