PHILADELPHIA (94WIP) — The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard from the Los Angeles Angels in the final minutes before the Major League Baseball trade deadline, on their third acquisition of the day.
The Phillies traded outfielders Mickey Moniak and Jadiel Sánchez to acquire the veteran pitcher.
Syndergaard, 29, is in his seventh MLB season, spending the first six with the New York Mets before signing a one-year, $21 million deal with the Angels this past offseason.
Syndergaard, who has battled injuries throughout his career, is 5-8 this season with a 3.83 ERA. His best season was back in 2016 when he was named to the All-Star Game and finished the season 14-9 with a 2.60 ERA, 218 strikeouts, and 43 walks.
Shortly after news of the trade became official, Syndergaard addressed the elephant in the room about a past incident of vehicle theft at Citizens Bank Park.
More accurately, he addressed the green creature from the Galapagos Islands in the room.
Earlier on MLB Trade Deadline Day, the Phils acquired right-handed veteran relief pitcher David Robertson and 24-year-old outfielder Brandon Marsh.
The Phillies also designated outfielder Odubel Herrera and pitcher Jeurys Familia for assignment.
