PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- The Trenton Thunder are no longer affiliated with the New York Yankees, but the team was selected as one of the founding members of the new MLB Draft League, which will provide a platform for Major League Baseball prospects to improve their skills ahead of the draft.

Thunder General Manager Jeff Hurley says the team is excited for the opportunity to be involved.

"We’re still learning a lot of the details about the league, but what we can tell our fans is you’re going to get the same Thunder experience you’ve gotten and you’ve been accustomed to over the past 27 years," Hurley said.

He says the league will assign players and coaches to each team for the 68-game schedule.

"These guys are going to be able to showcase their talents. Scouts are going to be in one place. The technology that we’re going to be able to utilize through Major League Baseball is going to be state of the art," he said.

The other founding teams, from Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia, include the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, the State College Spikes, the West Virginia Black Bears and the Williamsport Crosscutters.
