PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Books aren’t the only thing you can check out at Delaware County libraries.
The libraries are partnering with the Delaware County Office of Sustainability for the Team Up to Clean Up initiative. Participants can now go to a library to borrow a “litter kit.”
“Each of Delaware County’s 27 libraries will be equipped with two Team Up to Clean Up litter kits that residents are able to check out the same way they would a library book,” said Sustainability Officer Rebecca Yurkovich.
The kits come equipped with a number of tools: “Trash grabbers, vests, trash bags, Clorox wipes, and a safety sheet providing information on how to safely clean up roadways and other areas.”
Officials said the kits make it easy for residents to earn volunteer hours and help clean up the town.
Yurkovich said the program tackles multiple issues at once.
“While litter not only clogs storm drains and can pose a hazard to wildlife in our communities, it also reduces property values and has proven to elevate stress levels,” she said.
The Team Up to Clean Up initiative officially kicks off on July 29.
