It may be impossible to calculate the number of hot dogs and buns sold and consumed leading up to the Fourth of July holiday, but chances are everyone is left with extra dogs or extra buns. Why are hot dogs and buns sold in packs or unequal size?
At the grocery store, buns usually come in packs of eight, while hot dogs come in packs of six, seven, even 10. It just doesn't make sense.
Heinz -- maker of ketchup, mustard and other hot dog condiments -- completely agrees and has started a petition to end this farce once and for all. The company is calling their campaign the "Heinz Hot Dog Pact."
On the Heinz website, where the company asks willing participants to sign a petition and bring an end to the insanity, a statement reads, in part: "As the condiment that has been bringing foods together for over 150 years, we’ve decided enough is enough. That’s why we started the Heinz Hot Dog Pact."
The statement continues, "We’re calling on Big Bun and Big Wiener companies to find the answer to this hot dog packaging mismatch, once and for all. We need your signatures more than ever. Let’s change hot dog history together."
